Pensacola Bahia grass is a hardy, drought-tolerant, warm-season grass ideal for sunny, low-maintenance lawns. It thrives in poor, sandy soil with a deep root system, germinating in 7–28 days. It grows 8–30 inches tall, requiring frequent mowing due to fast-growing, tall, V-shaped seed heads, preferably kept at 2–4 inches. 
 
Key Characteristics and Benefits
Growing Conditions: Best in full sun, but more shade-tolerant than other warm-season grasses.
Durability: Highly resistant to drought, heat, and cold, making it ideal for the northern parts of the warm-season zone.
Maintenance: Low-fertilizer requirement, but produces high amounts of seed heads from May to September.
Planting: Plant in spring/early summer; recommended seeding rate is 10 lbs per 1,000 sq ft for new lawns.
Drawbacks: Considered a "thin" turf that doesn't spread aggressively; can be difficult to mow due to tough, fibrous, and tall seed heads.
